Opal McCord
Opal M. McCord, 89, Fort Recovery, died at 5:38 a.m. Sept. 4, 2010, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry, Ind.
She was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Shelburn, Ind., to John F. and Nancy Lay Slover. On Oct. 15, 1942, she married Clarence F. McCord, who died May 30, 2000.
Surviving is a son, David (Ruth) McCord, Lewisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Donna McCord, Dayton, Ind.; two brothers, Edward Slover, Linton, Ind., and John (Joanie) Slover, Monticello, Ind.; a sister, Thelma Hauger, Springfield, Ill.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased is a sister, Maude Thompson.
She was a 1938 graduate of Shelburn High School in Shelburn, Ind., and obtained a nursing degree from American Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 111 and the Fort Recovery United Methodist Church, both of Fort Recovery.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. David Gordon officiating. Burial is at Green Park Cemetery in Portland, Ind.
Calling is 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
