Levi Shope
Levi Shope, 82, Portland, Ind., died at 9:55 a.m. Oct. 17, 2010, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Ind.
He was born July 11, 1928, in Vanceburg, Ky., to Rotch and Clarisa Vance Shope. On April 4, 1975, he married Mary Jo Huelsman Lennartz, who died Dec. 15, 2007.
Surviving are two sons, Rotch (Laurinda) Shope, Portland, Ind., and Kenneth (Gail) Shope, Muncie, Ind.; two stepsons, Albert (Ann) Lennartz, Boone, Iowa, and Herbert (Linda) Lennartz, Westville, Ind.; four stepdaughters, Marguerite (William) Krein, Kettering, Paula Lennartz, Portland, Ind., Tina (Bill) Bechtol, Fort Recovery, and Denice Theurer, Fort Recovery; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren and 21 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also deceased is a sister, Mabel Peed; four half-sisters, Idella Lewis, Stella Swain, Olive Scott and Margie Snider; and a half-brother, Morton Skidmore.
He worked as a lineman for the Jay County REMC, was a carpenter for Deaton Construction Company in Portland, Ind., and was a maintenance worker for Bearcreek Farms in Bryant, Ind. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 211 and the Fellowship Baptist Church, both in Portland.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery, the Rev. Hugh Kelly officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Cemetery in Fort Recovery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
