Albert J. "Al" Barhorst, 85, Minster, died Oct. 7, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

He was born July 21, 1926 in Fort Loramie to Albert H. and Anna Barlage Barhorst. On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Martha Bornhorst Barhorst, who died June 18, 2010.

Surviving are daughters, Lynda Barhorst, Hudson, Fla., Deb (Kevin) Ranly, Sidney; siblings, Alma Mangen, New Bremen, Norma Koverman, Van Wert, Carl (Eileen) Barhorst, Fort Loramie, Ernie (Joann) Barhorst, Fort Loramie, Joann Vondenhuevel, Minster; sister-in-law, Dorothy Quinlin, Fort Loramie; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Deceased are brother Harold Barhorst and in-laws, Orville Mangen, LeRoy Koverman, Vern Vondenhuevel, Jim Quinlin, Don Bornhorst and Pat Bornhorst.  

A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, he was a member of Minster VFW Post, Minster American Legion Post and the New Bremen Rod and Gun Club.

He was retired from Sidney Tool and Die where he had been a tool/die inspector for many years. He and his late wife owned and operated the former Home Service Cleaners, Minster.

He served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Minster Veterans Firing Squad.

Calling is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
