Dan Kirkendall
Dan R. Kirkendall, 71, Decatur, Ind., died at 2:40 p.m. Jan. 1, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 10, 1941, in Indianapolis, Ind. On July 8, 1978, he married Carolyn R. Ontrop, who survives in Decatur.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sarah R. Kirkendall, Kalamazoo, Mich.; s sister, Marcia L. (George) Penry, Greenfield, Ind.; and a brother, Greg Duncan, Sharpsville, Ind.
Deceased is a brother, James Snyder
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 and was a member at St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville, Ind., where he also had been a Eucharistic minister.
He was a graduate of Western High School in Russiaville, Ind., and a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture and a master's in education. He retired in January 2004 as a teacher with the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend after 20 years of service.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose Catholic Church, Rev. Joseph D'Souza officiating. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville. Burial will follow Mass at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
