James Adams
James A. Adams, 84, St. Marys, died at 9:45 p.m. Feb. 22, 2013, at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born Sept. 27, 1928, in St. Marys to Oscar and Idabelle Rickman Adams, who are deceased.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan (Vern) Stucke, St. Marys; and two grandchildren, Dr. Gregory (Dr. Kacie) Stucke, Mason, and Dana Stucke, Columbus.
Deceased are his brother, Wiliam "Wild Bill" Adams, and his life-companion, Gertrude Hughes.
He was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where he worked as a certified welder.
He had the distinction of being a veteran of both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, for which he was awarded numerous medals. While in the military, he served as flight mechanic aboard a B-17 Bomber for Col. Robert L. Scott Jr., who authored the book "God is My Co-Pilot," a first-hand account of World War II air adventures.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 323 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, both in St. Marys. His favorite pastimes included playing golf, fishing, trap-shooting and playing cards.
Rites are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial will follow with full graveside military honors at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
