Clara Davis
Clara Hertha (Vogel) Davis, 92, died peacefully at The Laurels in Rockford on March 24, 2013.
She was born Jan. 3, 1921, in Germany and immigrated to the United States with her father, Conrad Albrecht Vogel, her mother, Clara Roeder Vogel and her older brother, Siegfried Vogel in 1925. Her mother passed away in 1927, and her father married Anna, who raised Siegfried and Clara outside of New York City.
On July 10, 1946, she married Robert Davis of Celina, who died in September 2004.
She is survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Vogel of California, Romola Beougher of Rockford and Ruth Davis of St. Marys, Ed and Joanne Davis of Celina, and Armand Davis of Celina; 24 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Sigmund Vogel; brothers-in-law, Charles Beougher, Kenneth Davis and Eugene Davis; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Davis, Marjorie Davis and Zella Ruth Harter.
She was baptized into the Catholic Church in 1952 in Miamisburg. Her and her husband spent the first few years of their married life in Ohio before moving to California for Robert's job as a pipe-fitter.
Her and her husband loved to golf and spent their early retired years living on a golf course in Palm Desert. She was devoted to the dogs that were part of their family for many years. She worked in a veterinary office and volunteered for several dog rescue organizations while she lived in California.
They returned to Celina in 1991, to the delight of the family who still lived in the area.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Burial will be at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina.
