Francis Carmean
Francis S. "Brow" Carmean, 93, St. Marys, died at 4:20 a.m. March 27, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in St. Marys.
He was born July 1, 1919, in St. Marys, to Stephen and Cina (Bowman) Carmean. On Dec. 22, 1945, he married Grace Stienecker, who survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving are his two children, Janet (Al) Meinerding of St. Marys and Jack (Lynne) Carmean of St. Marys; nine grandchildren, Marcie (Jeff) Albright of St. Marys, Isaak Meinerding of St. Marys, John (Emily) Meinerding of St. Marys, Jakob (Ellyn) Meinerding of Cincinnati, Samantha Meinerding of St. Marys, Jason (Misty) Carmean of Wapakoneta, Jill (Nathan) Young of Marysville, Craig (Amanda) Carmean of Atlanta, and Paul Carmean of St. Marys; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, L.G. "Sonny" Carmean, Shannon Carmean, Gordon Carmean, Carl Carmean and Eugene Carmean; sisters, Opal Diltz, Fara Lewis, Laverne Reineke, Sylvia Carmean, Betty Johnson and Winona Ellis; and a granddaughter, Katie Meinerding.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in England and Africa. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys. He was a member of the DAV, where he had served as commander, the American Legion Post 323, where he also served as commander, VFW Post 9289 and Eagles Lodge 767.
He enjoyed fishing and boating, and he was an avid camper. He also loved to travel and had toured all over the U.S., Europe and Northern Africa. He was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys.
Funeral rites are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Dr. David Williams officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Veterans' Association.
