Walter H. Frey, 85, Osgood, died at 5:10 p.m. Aug. 24, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 29, 1928, in Mercer County, to Joseph and Cecilia Bruening Frey. On Aug. 7, 1954, in St. Anthony, he married Bernice Homan, who survives.

Other survivors are his children, Robert (Kathleen) Frey, Versailles, Carol (Duane) Heinfeld, Maria Stein, Roger (Carol) Frey, Versailles, Paul (Karen) Frey, New Bremen, Thomas (Brenda) Frey, Houston, Ronald (Pamela) Frey, Fort Loramie, and Kay (Michael) Woods, Jacksonville, N.C.; 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian (Walter) Braun, St. Rose, Marilyn Homan, Coldwater, and Alberta (Willard) Bruns, St. Sebastian; and in-laws, Bernadette Frey, Dayton, Herbert Hoying, Sidney, Juliana Frey, Fort Loramie, Cyril Overman, Maria Stein, Joan (Jim) Pleiman, Cassella, Mary Ann Young, Huntington, Ind., and Pat Homan, Lima.

Deceased are a son, Mark Frey; a son-in-law, Richard Seitz; a grandson, Dustin Frey; and brothers, sisters and in-laws, Ralph and Esther Frey, Alvin Frey, Vernon Frey, Dorothy Hoying, Elizabeth Overman and Donald Homan.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood and its Men's Society. He sang in the church choir for 50 years. He also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #1391, Minster, and was past president. He was a member of the Versailles Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight. He was mayor and council member for the village of Osgood.

He also was a member of the Osgood Fire Department and Osgood Rescue Squad, and worked at the Osgood Elevator and Minster Canning Factory.

Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial is at St. Martin Cemetery, Osgood.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
