Mary Jo McKirnan
Mary Josephine "Mary Jo" Sommers McKirnan, 83, died Sept. 29, 2013, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Celina, to Frank and Lillian Sommers. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Daniel "Dinny" McKirnan, who is deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin (Cheryl) McKirnan and Frank (Sue) McKirnan, both of Celina; two daughters, Maureen (Mike) Hausfeld, Atlanta, Ga., and Jane (Lee) Riesen, Lebanon; one grandson, Dak Helentjaris; six granddaughters, Julie Riesen Maines, Lucy Riesen, Lillian Hausfeld, Margo Hausfeld Sharp, and Miranda and Chelsea McKirnan; and two great-granddaughters, Keelyn Josephine and Delany Lou Maines.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera, and a brother, Frank.
She graduated from Ladywood High School, Indianapolis, Ind., and studied at the Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Ill., Miami University of Florida, and Indiana University. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She enjoyed her family and friends and spent her life living and boating on Grand Lake. Over the years she enjoyed singing, playing the piano and hosting parties for her many friends.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church.
Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick and Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
