Terrence Johnson
Terrence L. Johnson, M.D., 65, Van Wert, died at 3 p.m. Oct. 10, 2013, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1948, in New Castle, Ind. to June M. Shaw and Rex E. Johnson, who are both deceased. His wife, Connie L. Hirschy Beahrs Johnson, survives in Van Wert.
Also surviving are children, Charles (Dina) Beahrs, Jr., Port Charlotte, Fla., Camela (Andrew) Metzinger, McMurray, Pa., Catina (Shawn) Lamb, Springboro, and Amy (Leonardo) Plaza, Arlington, Va.; siblings, Jeffrey (Patty) Johnson, Mendon, Steven (Brenda) Johnson, Ohio City, Janelle (John) Sites, Rockford, Lyndel (William) Smith, Ohio City, Dr. Daclynn (Lori) Johnson, Rupert, Idaho, and Kimberly (Edward) Smith, Mendon; grandchildren, Jack and Hannah Metzinger, Cade and Ava Lamb, Aurora and Gustavo Plaza, Mario (Michelle) Farmakis, and John Farmakis; great-grandchildren, Matthew Farmakis and Nathan Farmakis; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Joan Hirschy, Charlotte, N.C.; and former spouse, Linda D. Johnson, Celina.
Deceased are Raymond A. and Aloha Marie Hirschy.
A graduate of Mendon Union High School, Manchester College and the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, where he was awarded many honors, he was a longtime medical practitioner at Van Wert Family Physicians. He began his residency in Fort Wayne, Ind. During his last year of residency, he worked in the Van Wert County Hospital Emergency Room. In 1975, he began practicing family medicine until his recent retirement on Sept. 27, 2013.
He was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church, a past board member of Peoples Bank, Van Wert, a current member of Van Wert Farm Bureau, Van Wert Elks Lodge, Willow Bend Country Club, Van Wert Medical Society, Ohio State Medical Association, American Association of Family Practice, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society.
Dr. Johnson was instrumental in developing the Medical Procurement Program at Van Wert County Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial is at Tomlinson Cemetery, Mercer County.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
