Edward Evers
Edward J. Evers, 89, Burkettsville, passed away Jan. 19, 2014, at Joint Township Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born June 8, 1924, in Wendelin, to Clem and Theresa Lange Evers. On Aug. 13, 1949, he married Rita Dirksen in Cassella, and she survives in Coldwater.
Also surviving are six children, Jerry (Kathy) Evers, Englewood, Carol (Dave) Seger, Centerville, Dale (Joyce) Evers, Bryant, Ind., Dave (Barb) Evers and Dan (Marleen) Evers, all of Burkettsville, and Nancy (Dan) Kremer, North Star; 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Clem Evers Jr., St. Henry, and Greg Evers, Wendelin; in-laws, Esther Evers-Wuebker, Fort Recovery; Irene Evers, St. Henry; Alma Schmitmeyer, St. Henry; Esther Winner, Anna; Joann Poeppelman, Yorkshire, Louis (Sally) Dirksen, Pennville, Ind., Dennis (Judy) Dirksen, Maria Stein, Marvin (Ruth) Evers, St. Henry, and Mary Dirksen, Uvalde, Texas.
He was preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Herbert (Esther) Evers, Harold (Ludwina) Evers, Florence (Anna) Evers, Clarence (Rita) Evers, Alfreida (Sylvan) Siegrist, Walter Evers, Henry Evers, Carl Bertke, Marian Evers, Herb Dirksen, Ernie Schmitmeyer, Orville Winner, John Poeppelman and Helen (George) Wenning.
A lifelong farmer, he was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, and the Men's Society of the church. He also was a member of the Mercer Soil & Water Conservation District and past board member of the Mercer County Holstein Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-9:45 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
