David Hawkey
David W. Hawkey, 58, St. Marys, died June 2, 2014, at OSU/Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born Sept. 20, 1955, in St. Marys, to Orville and Betty (Slemmons) Hawkey. On July 16, 1988, he married Ann M. Jones at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Hawkey and her fiance, Erik Chapin, St. Marys; a son, Andrew Hawkey, St. Marys; two brothers, Daniel Hawkey, St. Marys, and Ron (Neta) Hawkey, St. Marys; a sister, Sharon Young, St. Marys; a brother, Scott (Dot) Hawkey, St. Marys; a twin sister, Diana Alge, Rotonda West, Fla.; a sister, Becky Knutzen, St. Marys; mother-in-law, Florence Jones, St. Marys; brothers-in-law, Jim (Denise) Jones, Celina, and Joe (Dee Dee) Jones, Keswick, Va.; and sisters-in-law, Amy (Alan) Anselman, St. Marys, and Amber (Carl) Brown, Minster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Betty Hawkey; father-in-law, James Willian "Doc" Jones; a sister-in-law, Delores Hawkey; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Young, Mike Alge and Earl Knutzen
He was a 1974 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and worked at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen for 26 years, where he was a CNC lathe operator. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of activities, including hunting, fishing, bicycling, feeding and watching birds and taking motorcycle rides with his wife. He also enjoyed sports, and was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. He was very outgoing and had a gift for conversation, deriving great joy from making people laugh.
Funeral rites are 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Barry Stechschulte officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home on High Street.
