Harold Painter
Harold Dean Painter, 85, Mendon, passed away Aug. 30, 2014, at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Mercer County, to James Harold and Lula C. Hines Painter. On Jan. 19, 1952, he married Naomi Jean Canary, who died Nov. 15, 1999.
Surviving are a son, James L. (Nancy) Painter, Mendon; two grandchildren, Kristel (Kevin) Jacobs and Jimmy (Cassi) Painter; five great-grandchildren, Drew, Allison and Chase Jacobs, and Amairi and Dylan Painter; a sister-in-law, Wilma Painter, St. Marys; and a special friend and caregiver, Carol Zender, Celina.
Deceased are two brothers, Paul (Elma) Painter and Fred Painter; and a sister, Betty (Ernest) Rasawehr.
He attended Mendon-Union schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a mess sergeant during the Korean War. He retired from Mersman Brothers, Celina, after 46 years of service.
He had also worked for the Mendon street department, served on Mendon Village Council and was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the St. Marys Tri-Squares Dance Club.
Private services will be held for the family, Pastor Don Clinger officiating. Burial is at Mendon Cemetery with military rites by Celina VFW Post #5713 and American Legion Post #210.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon.
