Floyd Braun
The Rev. Floyd Braun, 87, St. Marys, died at 1:35 p.m. Sept. 8, 2014, at the Miller House, Celina.
He was born July 5, 1927, near Saginaw, Mich., to Bernhardt and Caroline Kuhl Braun. On July 16, 1978, he married Arlene Leschansky Folk, who died Nov. 9, 2007.
Surviving are a daughter, Anne Braun Prenatt, St. Marys; four stepchildren, Kim (Bill) Axe, Toledo, Nan (Steve) Larmore, Celina, John Folk, St. Marys, and Bill Folk, St. Marys; seven grandchildren, Jessica Prenatt, Steph (Brian) Will, Luke (Markie) Larmore, BJ Axe, Caleb Axe, Julia Folk and Charlie Folk; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, James (Joan) Braun, Saginaw, Mich.
Deceased are three siblings, Arthur Braun, Ruth Sebenick and Willis Braun; a daughter, Faith Lynne Braun Owens; and a grandson, William Owens III.
He was a 1945 graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy Seabees during the occupation of Japan. He was a Navy boxing champion, fighting as "Curly Braun."
He graduated from Asbury College in 1951 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1958, after which he began his ministry. He served churches in Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio, retiring from Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen.
During his years of church ministry, he oversaw the building of six new churches. After retirement from active ministry, he began a career representing United Church Directories. He also was a substitute teacher in various Auglaize and Mercer county school systems.
Rites are noon Saturday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, High Street chapel, St. Marys, the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289.
Calling is 10-noon Saturday at the funeral home.
