Helen Slavik-Pack
Helen E. Slavik-Pack, 92, formerly of Coldwater,died at 3 p.m. Sept. 25, 2014, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born Aug. 4, 1922, near Essen, Germany, to William and Lillian Happel Grenzebach. On Aug. 8, 1942, she married Norman Slavik, who died April 15, 1975. She then married William Pack, who died in 1997.
Surviving are five children, Susan (Mark) Chenven, San Diego, Calif., Jane (Gary) Margolies, Lake Mahopac, N.Y., Barbara Slavik, Port Angeles, Wash., Tom (Rosa) Slavik, Damascus, Va., and Betsy (Jonathan) Slavik-Johnson, San Diego; a sister, Laura Amen, Texas; a brother, Paul Grenzebach, New Carlisle; 14 grandchildren, Jesse, Kyre, Heather, Holly, Louise, Mary, Matt, Amy, Beth, Megan, Brett, Allisa, Jamen and Caitlan; 13 great-grandchildren, Ezra, Lucia, Leroy, Tia, Dani, Nick, Hannah, Abigail, Zachary, Blaine, Mara, Jack and Maggie Sue; a daughter-in-law, Jane Slavik, New Bremen; a sister-in-law, Pat Slavik, Otterbein St. Marys.
She and her family emigrated to the U.S. in 1927, and she grew up in Cleveland, where she attended high school. She later attended Wright State University. She worked for many years as the bookkeeper at Hemmelgarn and Sons, Philothea, and later for the village of Coldwater. She was Lutheran by faith. She had lived in Arizona and California for many years during her retirement.
Funeral rites are 3 p.m. Sunday at the Meyer Community Chapel on the campus of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, the Rev. Vince Lavieri, officiating. Graveside burial rites are 2 p.m. Monday at Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge, the Rev. Rosa Slavik, officiating.
Calling is 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Otterbein.
Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Otterbein Benevolence Fund.
