John Tomhafe
John Tomhafe, 88, New Bremen, was found deceased in his home on Dec. 1, 2014.
He was born Feb. 6, 1926, in New Bremen, to Raymond and Ma-della Uetrecht Tomhafe.
He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen. He also was a member of the New Bremen Historic Association, the Nickel Plate Historical Society of which he was a past president and since 1964 a member of the Railroad Preservation Organization.
He was the resident railroad engineer at the yearly open house at the Lincoln Park Railroad Exhibit in Lima. In his early days he worked at the former White Mountain Creamery in New Bremen and then became a fireman and engineer on both steam and diesel locomotives with the Nickel Plate and the Norfolk and Western railroads until his retirement. He then continued working for the former TRANCO of New Bremen, where he drove and delivered trucks to companies after they had been repaired.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral Home.
