Carol Gorn
Carol Gorn, 64, formerly of Celina, died Dec. 6, 2014, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in 1950, in Celina, to Donald and Dorothy Leffler.
Surviving are her stepmother, Carolyn Leffler; a sister, Pam Pitoniak; a brother, Dean Leffler; a stepsister, Shari Shelby; two stepbrothers, Mitch Detrick and Doug Detrick; two daughters, Angie Stengel and Kim Kertscher; a son, Geoff Gorn; and five grandchildren.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University, Oxford, and a master's degree in education from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
We can all be certain that Heaven will be a bit more colorful. As a retired art teacher, she found color and beauty in the everyday. She dedicated her life to raising twin girls and a son.
She first wrangled many tween and teen girls in a very active Girl Scout troop and then tackled Boy Scouts with her son, all while teaching art to hundreds of students at Hilton Head Elementary School. She had a contagious laugh and a caring heart. Her story telling and lengthy phone calls to friends near and far were legendary.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at The Island Funeral Home, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
