Richard Francis
Richard C. "Dick" Francis, 70, Versailles, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Dec. 7, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 5, 1944, in Greenville, to Carl and Amelia Simon Francis. He was married to Jane Francis, who is deceased. On July 25, 1992, he married Carol Mescher, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jeff (Angie) Francis, Versailles; two daughters, Julie (Matt) Traver, Findlay, and Carrie (Ken) Schoen, Fort Recovery; nine grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Ava, Ella and Nora Schoen, Anne Traver, and Kelsey, Ross and Collin Francis; his mother-in-law, Sally Mescher, Versailles; a brother, John Francis, Athens; two sisters, Linda (James) Davidson, Versailles, and Connie Droesch, Versailles; and extended family members of the Wehrkamp, Mescher and Francis families.
Also deceased are two daughters, Laurie Ann Francis and Allyson Mescher; a brother, Lawrence "Larry" Francis; an infant sister, Mary Rose Francis; a sister-in-law, Jan Francis; a brother-in-law, Ralph Droesch; his father- and mother-in-law, Ernest "Slim" and Mary Jean Wehrkamp; and his father-in-law, Ralph Mescher.
He worked as the parts manager at Willowdell Sales and worked part time at Lefeld Implement. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play. He played softball and baseball for the Western Ohio League, enjoyed watching the Reds and loved yard work.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, the Rev. Ron Haft officiating. Burial will follow at St. Louis Catholic Church Cemetery, North Star.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles.
