Daniel Sharkey
Daniel J. Sharkey, 60, Celina, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer at 3:48 a.m. Jan. 15, 2015, at his home with his wife and daughter at his side.
He was born Dec. 7, 1954, in Cincinnati, to the late Patrick J. and Amelia M. Riggs Sharkey, who survives in Miamisburg. On June 21, 2003, in St. Anthony, he married Kathy Post Thobe, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving are a daughter, Megan S. (fiance Brian Hullinger) Sharkey, Celina; two stepsons, Brad (Kristin) Thobe, and Michael (Kelly) Thobe, all of Celina; five grandchildren, Zayn, Isabelle, Quinten, Natalie and Miles; five siblings, Thomas (Beth) Sharkey, Miamisburg, Jerome (Leslie) Sharkey, Springboro, Linda (William) Branigan, Miamisburg, Patricia Mann, Miamisburg, and Kathleen (William) Coney, Celina, Texas; in-laws, Jerry (Sue) Post, Celina, Carol Roche, Celina, and Sharon Post Hong, Cleveland; 11 nieces; nine nephews; 12 great-nieces; and 12 great-nephews.
Deceased are a grandson, Mason; parents-in-law, Clarence and Rosemary Post; and in-laws, Donovan Mann, Ron Roche and Bob Hong.
After 35 years in the tool and die industry, he became an entrepreneur and inventor. His invention, "The Kangaroo," is an adjustable-height, sit-to-stand desk. He and his wife started the Ergo Desktop company in November 2009 in a one-car garage, and it has grown to an internationally sold product.
He was an occasional golfer, but his greatest love was spending time with family and friends and making them laugh. He was a member of the Celina Moose Lodge and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, and was a 1973 graduate of Miamisburg High School.
Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, the Rev. Richard Walling, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 1-6 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Memorials may be given to State of the Heart Hospice.
