Lucy Fortman
Lucy Fortman, 91, Dayton, departed from this world on Feb. 1, 2015.
She was born Feb. 22, 1923, in St. Anthony, to John L. and Victoria Stelzer Fortman.
Deceased are her brothers, Rev. Marcellus, Paul (Mary Selhorst), Richard (Eleanor Droesch) and John, and her sisters, Adelaide (Herman Lochtefeld), Sister Rosemary, Elizabeth (Leo Carter), Sister Madonna and Dorothy (Zeno) Schoenlein.
She had 11 nieces and nephews and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews.
She grew up on the farm with her four brothers and five sisters. After graduating from Fort Recovery High School, she attended St Rita's Hospital School of Nursing, Lima, and became a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse most of her life including many years at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. She also received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Dayton in 1964.
She lived a life of selfless service to her siblings, nieces and nephews, neighbors and hospital patients. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in North Dayton.
During retirement, she was very fond of her dogs, Muffy One, and Muffy Two and Willie. Each served as a great companion to her and exhibited the same trait of selfless service that she did. She also enjoyed sewing and making lunches for the other retired neighbors.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rita's Catholic Church, Dayton. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery near Fort Recovery.
Calling is at 9 a.m. Friday at Baker/Hazel & Snider Funeral Home, Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society of Greater Dayton or The Hospice of Dayton.
