Doris Howe
Doris L. Howe, age 89, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 6:55 AM at the Heritage Center, in Minster.
She was born on February 20, 1926 in New Bremen to the late Arnold and Clara (Fishbach) Waterman. On February 9, 1946 she married Lester R. Howe, who preceded her in death on March 28, 1989.
She is survived by a daughter Nan (Thomas) Scheib of Celina, a son Keith (Sharon) Howe of New Bremen, four grandsons Ryan Scheib, Glenn Scheib, Kyle Howe, and Wyatt Howe, and four great-grandchildren Colin Scheib, Riley Scheib, Miranda Scheib, and Cooper Scheib. Also surviving are a sister Betty McGowan of Phoenix, AZ, a brother David (Jean) Waterman, and a sister-in-law Alice Waterman all of New Bremen.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Donald Waterman, and brothers and sisters-in-law James (Audrey) Waterman, Thomas (Charlene) Waterman, and a brother-in-law John McGowan.
Doris was a lifelong member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. She graduated in 1944 from New Bremen High School and worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base during WWII. She retired in 1992 after 31 years of service as the central office secretary at New Bremen High School.
She was a member of the Child Guidance Club (OCCL), and a member of the New Bremen American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, spending time with family, and attending her grandchildren's activities. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her smile, and her love and devotion to her family. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Doris' life will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, with Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Interment will follow at the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home of New Bremen, and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Heritage Center for Rehabilitation and Specialty Care in Minster, Ohio, where Doris had resided for the past 15 years.
