Richard Colson
Richard F. "Dick" Colson, age 84 of Celina Ohio passed away on Saturday June 25, 2016. He also wintered in Davenport, Florida.
He was born on May 25, 1932 in Mercer County Ohio to the Late Frank and Mertie (Mosier) Colson. On Aug. 7, 1954 he married Mary Jo Maier, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving is a son Jeffery (Sharon) Colson of New Knoxville, two grandchildren Jonathon and Jennifer Colson and fiancé Travis Unrast, six great grandchildren, Jadon, Javin, Jynaya, Corbin, Dalton, and Branson Colson, 4 step grandchildren, Nicky & JT Miller, Marianne & Vince Mitchell, Aimee & Mark Highley and Jonathon Karch & his fiancee Molly Tehan, 5 step great grandchildren 1 Step great-great grandchild and a step brother Robert Hines of Celina.
Dick is preceded in death by his two sisters Burnell Deitsch, Lucy Karafit, his brother Donald Colson, step sisters Louise Apple, Betty Wonderly, Jo Ann Zornes, June Luebke, Janet Mathias and his step brother Vernon Hines.
He drove a bus for Celina Public Schools for 13½ years, worked at Avco New Idea in Coldwater and the Celina Police Department. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, a Lifetime and past Grand Knight of Celina Knights of Columbus Council #1800 and a 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus. He ushered at church for years and helped at the I.C. Church Festival with the Waffle making.
He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5713, a Lifetime member of the Celina American Legion Post #210 and a member of the Eagles Lodge of Celina. Dick was also a past trustee of Mercer County Sportsman Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors by the Celina V.F.W. and Celina American Legion.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. Celina V.F.W. and Celina American Legion membership services at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Knights of Columbus Council #1800 membership services at 8 p.m.
