Clifford Wise
Clifford L. Wise Sr., age 90 of Minster died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Heritage Manor, Minster.
He was born on October 29, 1925 in Hardin, Ohio to the late Franklin & Alice (Chappie) Wise. On November 11, 1950 he married Edna (Poeppelman). She survives in Minster.
He is also survived by four children, Deborah & Bob Barhorst of Minster, Lucinda & David Bruns of Coldwater, Clifford Jr. & Melissa Wise of St. Marys and Wendy & Mike Flynn of New Bremen; six grandchildren, Casey Barhorst, Erica (Bruns) Tucker, Aaron Bruns, Brandon Shafer, Bradley Shafer, and Benjamin Wise; four great grandchildren, Jaden and Eliyah Barhorst, Regan Shafer and Austin Tucker; and in-laws, Lester & Eileen Poeppelman of Minster, Esther Hoelscher of Newport and Jenny Voisard of Russia.
He was preceded in death by siblings and spouses, Louis & Roslind Wise, Marie & Vincent Wiseman, Viola & Byron Kinney, Mildred & Barney Sherman and Emma Wise and in-laws, Bernadine & Tom Froning, Ruth & Al Hoelscher, Alvin & Martha Poeppelman, Dorothy & Urb Gaier, Margaret & Aloys Hoelscher, Hilda & Clarence Seigel, Conrad Hoelscher and Carl Voisard.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster. He served as a sergeant in the 63rd Infantry Division also known as the Blood & Fire Division in both France & Germany. He was a squad leader and first scout for his unit and received the Bronze Star for his service. He was a member of the Minster American Legion and V.F.W. posts and the Minster Eagles.
He was a talented musician playing in many bands through the years. Clifford enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, mowing grass, tinkering in his garage and following the Cincinnati Reds. He retired from Crown in New Bremen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 21, 2016 at St. Augustine Church, Minster. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, Minster.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, on Thursday, October 20 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on Friday from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
