Eileen Whitsett
Eileen (Sutter) Whitsett, 83, passed away on December 22, 2017 at The Gardens at St. Henry.
Born to Raymond and Marie (Wirkner) Sutter, in Ohio, on August 29, 1934. She was the last surviving member of her birth family: sisters Esther (Paul) Horn, Patricia (John) McCarthy, and brother Jerome Sutter. Married to Charles K. Whitsett in Indianapolis on April 4, 1964, he preceded her in death on August 19, 2008. She is also preceded in death by her step father Luke Beckman, sister-in-law Patricia Whitsett, niece Teresa Olding and nephew Bill Horn.
She is survived by her children Elizabeth (Jim) Bruns, St. Henry, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles R. (Sherri) Whitsett, Woodbine, MD, and Rebecca Whitsett, Kettering, and five grandchildren Adam (Rachael), Ethan and Ben Bruns, Charlie and Lucy Whitsett and two great grandchildren Ruth Eileen and Luke Bruns. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Marilyn Sutter, Dayton, Mary Whitsett, David Whitsett, Sr. Therese Whitsett SP, Tom (Brenda) Whitsett, Martha (John) Kremer, Christine (Chuck) Stewart and Tim Whitsett all of Indianapolis, IN and Angela (Clarence) Frost of Pacific, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She attended St. Mary's Grade School, Dayton, Julienne and St. Joseph High Schools, Dayton and Xavier University and University of Detroit. She taught in parochial schools in Detroit, Cincinnati and Indianapolis, completing her career after 15 years of service at the St. Henry Catechetical Center. She was a long-time volunteer at the Mercer County Home, the Red Cross Blood Blank, and Hospice. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Montezuma where she was active in several ministries. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Sodality, the Stateline Writers Club, the Ecumenical Sisterhood, and a founding member of Mercer County Right to Life. She was a life-long and avid fan of Notre Dame Football, University of Dayton basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 pm and Thursday 9:00-9:45 am at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
