Rosa Briones
Rosa R. Briones, 89, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Heritage Park Nursing Home in Fort Wayne.
Born in 1928, in Crystal City, TX, she was a daughter of Benito and Ninfa Enriqueta (Saucedo) Rodriguez.
Rosa was a wonderful homemaker and mother of five children. Rosie enjoyed arts and crafts such as quilting, crocheting and embroidery. She loved flowers, gardening, writing poetry and bowling.
She was a remarkable and compassionate person. Her humanitarian efforts included working with the Senior Citizens and at W.I.C. in Fort Wayne for many years. She volunteered with the Red Cross doing translation and hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and other locations.
In years past, clubs she was involved with included Homemakers Club and MOM (Mothers of Marines) which she founded. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church while living and raising her children in Decatur, IN. After moving to Fort Wayne, she attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for over 25 years.
She is survived by her husband, Catarino Briones of Fort Wayne; children, Lupe (Lou) Briones of Los Angeles, CA., David Briones of Inglewood, CA., Robert Briones of Fort Wayne, Virginia "Jeanie" (Dave) Vanover of Huntington, IN., Laura Sroufe of Fort Wayne, and; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Carmen Voskuhl of Jasper, TX., and brother, Jim Rodriguez of Celina, OH.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ray, Ben, Henry, and Everardo (Lalo) Rodriguez.
A Vigil will be held at the St. Charles Borromeo Church Chapel, 4910 Trier Rd. Ft. Wayne, IN 46815, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on Friday January 26, 2018. Entrance to the Chapel faces Reed Rd.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke C.PP.S. officiating.
A Memorial Celebration will also be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. Her burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina, Ohio.
