Beatrice Schmit
Beatrice I. Schmit, 101, of Berne, IN, passed away at 5:15 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton.
She was born on Sunday, January 7, 1917, in Jay County, IN to Peter and Veronica Eischen. On December 12, 1939 she married Gilbert P. Schmit in Fort Wayne, IN; he passed away on May 7, 1994.
Beatrice attended Gibson School in Jay County. She was a member of the St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church in Geneva and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing for the Geneva Police Department and helping anyone in need. Beatrice will be greatly missed by her family.
Loving survivors include: Son - Ralph (Rita) Schmit, Celina, OH, Daughter - Alice Minch, Bryant, IN, Daughter - Martha (Wayne) Bollenbacher, Celina, OH, Daughter - Regina (Carolyn) Schmit, Chula Vista, CA, Son in Law - Paul Minnich, Portland, IN, 13 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, 10 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her: Father - Peter Eischen, Mother - Veronica (Klaus) Eischen, Husband - Gilbert P. Schmit, Son - Richard Schmit, Daughter - Ruth Minnich, Daughter-in-law - Donna Schmit, Son in Law - David Minch, Brothers - John Eischen, Joseph Eischen, Edward Eischen, Arthur Eischen, Sylvester Eischen, Sisters - Elizabeth Homan, Mary Koenig, Matilda Schwoerer, Cecilia Eischen, Catherine Hartnagel and Vita Weitzel.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home 100 N Washington Street Geneva on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. There will be prayer service held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 9:30-10:30 AM Friday morning before heading to the church for the service.
A service to celebrate Beatrice's life will be at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church 5970 E. 1100 S. Geneva at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 2, 2018. Father J Bosco Perera will be officiating and burial will follow in the St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church Cemetery.
