Anthony Gehret
Anthony J. Gehret, age 75, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at his residence early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2018.
He was born July 31, 1942, in Frenchtown, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Anna (Mueller) Gehret. On September 26, 1964, at St. John's Catholic Church in Maria Stein, Anthony married Madonna (Thobe) Gehret who survives.
Also surviving are ten children: Jeffrey Gehret of Versailles, Steven & Lisa Gehret of Russia, Jennifer & Marvin Broering of Burkettsville, Rebecca & Eric Hemmelgarn of Maria Stein, Anthony & Cheryl Gehret of Versailles, Randal & Christy Gehret of Versailles, Dianna & Tim Kunkler of Burkettsville, Deborah & Gregg Elking of Burkettsville, Angela & Kurt Rhoades of Russia and Jason Gehret of Versailles along with 32 grandchildren, one great-grandson, 3 step grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren; eight siblings: Mildred Bensman of Versailles, Alfred & Rose Gehret of McCartyville, Paul & Bernice Gehret of North Star, Urban & Irene Gehret of Frenchtown, Emma Rita & Dennis Heitkamp of New Bremen, Ed & Mary Lee Gehret of Willowdell, Cyril Gehret of Willowdell and Mary Ann & John Kuether of Egypt; sisters & brothers-in-law: Frances Gehret of Fort Loramie, Mary Ann & Louis Grieshop of Willowdell and Eva Gehret of Willowdell, Theresa Thobe of Versailles, Velma Johnston of San Pedro, CA, Roger & Carolyn Thobe of Maria Stein, Jane & Lester Schmitmeyer of Fort Loramie, Dennis & Nancy Thobe of Maria Stein and Lucy Thobe of Tipp City.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Vernon and Joseph Gehret; brothers & sisters-in-law: Virgil Bensman, Margie Gehret, Roberta & Charles Will, Ronald Thobe and Bill Johnston.
Mr. Gehret was a 1960 graduate of Versailles High School. He then served four years in the Army National Guard prior to the Vietnam Era. He retired in 2007 from the Minster Machine Company where he was employed 43 years in maintenance. He had also been engaged in farming.
Anthony attended St. Denis Catholic Church where he had been a member of the adult and funeral choirs. He was also a member of the St. Denis Knights of Columbus-3rd Degree, the Osgood American Legion and the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Tony loved music and guitars. Over the years he sang and played in various bands including the Gehret Orchestra, Grandmas & Grandpas and the Moms & Pops.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at St. Denis Church in Versailles with Rev. James Duell presiding. Interment will follow at St. Valbert Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
