DUBLIN TWP. - Two people were seriously injured in a collision between a sport utility vehicle and a commercial semitrailer at the intersection of state routes 118 and 707 on Tuesday.
Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Wapakoneta Post were dispatched to the accident at about 9:14 a.m., with units from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, Rockford Fire Department, Mendon-Union Fire Department and Mercer County Emergency Medical Services also responding, according to a news release.
Andres Lopez, 58, Washington, Iowa, reportedly was traveling northbound on State Route 118 in a 2000 Freightliner semitrailer. Rosann Schwartz, 47, Winchester, reportedly was driving a 2017 Chevrolet SUV westbound on State Route 707 with passenger Jonas Schwartz, 50, also of Winchester.
Troopers determined Rosann Schwartz had failed to stop at a stop sign, drove into the intersection and her vehicle was struck by Lopez's. The semi reportedly jackknifed and slid off the right edge of the road, while the Schwartzes' SUV was forced off the right side of the road and overturned.
Rosann Schwartz was initially transported by Mercer County EMS to Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, for "serious injuries," according to the release. Jonas Schwartz was also initially transported by Mercer County EMS to Community Hospital for "incapacitating injuries." The two were later transported by emergency helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Lopez was transported by Mercer County EMS to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, for non-incapacitating injuries.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and all parties were using seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the news release. The crash remains under investigation.
