County jobless rate now at 2.6%

Mercer County's unemployment rate dropped for the second straight month, and the county has maintained the state's lowest unemployment rate since May 2016.
The rate dropped from 2.8% in September to 2.6% in October, according to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
Auglaize County's rate increased from 3.1% in September to 3.2% in October, tied with Delaware and Wayne counties for the sixth-lowest rate behind Geauga County, 2.7%; Lake and Medina counties, 2.8%; Putnam and Wyandot counties, 2.9%; and Hancock and Holmes counties, 3.1%
Rates in neighboring counties dropped from 4.1% to 4% in Allen County, 3.8% to 3.6% in Darke County, and 3.6% to 3.5% in Shelby. The rate in Van Wert County remained at 3.4%.
Ohio's unemployment rate was 4.2% in October, unchanged from September. The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in October was 246,000, up 3,000 from 243,000 in September. The number of unemployed has decreased by 19,000 in the past 12 months from 265,000. Ohio's October unemployment rate decreased from 4.6% in October 2018.
The U.S. unemployment rate for October was 3.6%, up from 3.5% in September and down from 3.8% in October 2018.
