Lois Hemmelgarn
Lois A. Hemmelgarn, age 87, of Philothea, died Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Briarwood Village.
She was born March 26, 1933 in Montezuma to the late Rudolph and Olive (Schwieterman) Dorsten. On October 11, 1952 she married Floyd J. Hemmelgarn and he died September 30, 1997.
She is survived by sons, Fr. Larry Hemmelgarn C.PP.S. of Dayton and Rick (Donna) Hemmelgarn of Philothea; four grandchildren, Amy (Kevin) Welling of Philothea. Marty Hemmelgarn of Columbus, Brian (Hunter) Hemmelgarn of Ft. Recovery and Tyler Hemmelgarn of Philothea; six great-grandchildren, Josie, Carly, Paisley and Avery Welling and Theo and Rowan Hemmelgarn; brother Clyde Dorsten of Xenia; sister-in-law Joyce Dorsten of Inverness, Florida; sister-in-law Betty (Auggie) Jutte of St Henry; brother-in-law Jerry Hemmelgarn of Kent. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Louie Stahl of St. Henry.
She was preceded in death by a son Martin Hemmelgarn; siblings and in-laws, Carl (Marcella) Dorsten, Gerald Dorsten, Othmar (Sally) Dorsten, Bob (Virginia) Dorsten, Ermal Dorsten, Harold Dorsten, Cyril Dorsten, Rosie Dorsten and Shirley Hemmelgarn.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Philothea, the ladies sodality of the church and the Coldwater VFW Auxiliary. She was a former CCD teacher for 20+ years, former DRE and coordinated the prayer services at the church. She is a Companion of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.
Lois was also a vital part of Hemmelgarn and Sons, Inc. for many years. And initiated and was President of the Parkinson's Society of Mercer County.
Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Larry Hemmelgarn C.PP.S. following all CDC guidelines will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Mary Church. Overflow seating available with livestream in the school hall. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Philothea.
Friends may call from 12:15 to1:15 PM Saturday prior to Mass at the church. Due to COVID-19 concerns please limit physical contact with the family, wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
