Alberta Reno
Alberta M. Reno, 98, WWII widow, and resident of Indianapolis, passed away at Westminster Village North December 20, 2020, peacefully in her sleep.
She was born December 7, 1922, in Coldwater, Ohio, the daughter of Aloys B. and Ottilia (Gottes) Garman. Bert graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School and from Coldwater High School in 1941. She married Cpl. Robert V. Reno in 1943. He was killed in action during WWII on April 1, 1945, leaving her a widow with a baby son and pregnant with a child later born that summer.
Bert was a graduate of Elkhart Business University where she graduated as a laboratory technician and also with a medical secretary certificate. She was employed for twenty years with Miles-Ames Research Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana, and then for twenty years she worked at St. Francis Hospital and Healthcare Centers in Beech Grove, IN in Hospital Administration.
In retirement she enjoyed traveling, volunteering as a reading tutor in Warren Twp. and playing bridge in weekly and monthly bridge clubs. She was active and enjoyed water aerobics twice a week for fourteen years. She also had been a member of the Guardian Angel Guild.
She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and later at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on 10th Street in Indianapolis. She also was a member of the Holy Spirit Choir and its Resurrection Choir before the onset of dementia.
Bert was preceded in death by her husband, their son Robert E. Reno, and four siblings: Eugene Garman, LeRoy Garman, Lucille Moorman, and Rose Evelyn Deardoff, all of Ohio.
Survivors include her daughter Roberta Caito and son-in-law Philip J. Caito. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Rebecca (Alan) Newton of Nesbit, Mississippi; Elizabeth (Fritz) Little of Manassas, VA; Kelly (Jeff) Boyd of Hoover, AL; Megan (Erik) Anderson of Cleveland, TN; Melissa Caito of Fishers, IN; Philip R. (Dena Rae Hancock) Caito of Naples, FL; Matthew (Kerry) Caito of Indianapolis, IN; and Amanda (Donnie) Wagner of McCordsville, IN. Bert also leaves behind 28 great-grandchildren.
The family celebrated Bert's life with a private service at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church in Fishers. Burial was at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester, Indiana, where she is now at rest between her husband and her son.
