Gary Hemmerich
Gary L. Hemmerich, age 80 of St. Henry, died Sunday, December 27, 2020 at his home.
He was born December 19, 1940 in Ansonia to the late James & Beth (Poling) Hemmerich. On May 25, 1968 he married Carol (Homan) and she survives. He is also survived by a son Kevin Hemmerich, a daughter Krisann (Wesley) Franck; grandchildren, Grant, Emma & Caroline; in-laws June (Al) Lindquist, Mary (Jerry) Addison, Joan Uhlenhake, Jane (Michael) Heitkamp, Leo (Jane) Homan and Cathy (Brad) Paschen and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Kenneth, nephew Shawn, parents-in-law Sylvester & Madonna Homan and brothers-in-law Bill Schanbacher and Harold Uhlenhake.
Gary proudly served in the U.S. Army for 32 months serving during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of Ansonia American Legion Post 353, V.F.W. Post 4497 and Greenville Eagles #2177. He belonged to the Darke County Mayors group, was a 10-gallon blood donor, a member of the Ansonia Athletic Wall of Fame and served 48 years as timekeeper for the football and basketball games earning him a league pass to all activities in CCC conference.
He was a big fan of the Ansonia Tigers and the St. Henry Redskins. Gary worked as a barber when he got out of the Army, a school custodian, then became the Darke County EMA director and was a FEMA task force leader.
Private Family Service following all CDC guidelines at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Henry Cemetery.
Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry is handling the arrangements.
