Marcella Werner
Marcella (Sally) Fahncke Werner died on December 27, 2020, at Manchester Commons, an assisted living facility in Erie PA. She was 96.
Marcella was born to Otto M. and Eda (Kable) Fahncke on August 30, 1924 in Liberty Township of Mercer County, Ohio. On December 21, 1947, she married Dr. John R. Werner. They later divorced in 1982. John preceded her in death in 1991.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter: Mark Werner (Lynn) of Albuquerque NM, Dennis Werner of Santa Catarina, Brazil, Joyce Werner (Guy Klopp) of Sacramento CA and Dean Werner (Gayle) of Erie, PA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kyra Klopp, Jacob Werner, Amelia Werner, and Jeffrey Werner. Sally is also survived by her sister Celesta Howell. Among remaining family members are two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Lauretta Felver, Martin Fahncke, Luther Fahncke, Kenneth Fahncke, Anna Brandt, Richard Fahncke, and Wanda Fahncke.
During World War II, Sally moved to Columbus, Ohio where she was an office worker at the Wartburg Press. After her marriage to John, she moved to Philadelphia, Wrightsville, and finally to Jamestown, PA. After her divorce, she moved to Greenville, PA, where she enjoyed working at Daffin's Candies for several years, finding the work was very satisfying.
She was an avid seamstress of clothing, curtains, Halloween costumes, and stuffed animals. She also volunteered at Meals on Wheels for years.
Sally was a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville for close to 60 years. In addition to working in the church office for years, she also enjoyed making blankets with the sewing group and always looked forward to the social fellowship of the group. After moving to Erie, Sally attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
Sally chose to move to independent living at St. Paul's in Greenville in 2006, but that didn't mean she stopped her activities at the church where she helped those unable to drive by providing rides to church and other appointments. While at St. Paul's, she served as the floor representative on the food committee. She later moved to Erie to be closer to her son Dean and his family.
