Verl Gayer
Verl A. Gayer, 86, of Saint Marys, died Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minster.
He was born May 8, 1934, in Saint Marys, the son of Raymond and Lucille (Eisley) Gayer.
He married Shirley McDermitt on April 24, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church in Saint Marys; she survives at the residence.
He is survived by his children: Diane Gayer of Saint Marys; Drew (Paula) Gayer of Cridersville; by his grandchildren: Amanda Gayer; Brandon (Autumn) Shepherd; Kalie Gayer. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings: Harold (Angie) Gayer of Riverside, California; Lee Gayer of Braselton, Georgia; by his sisters-in-law Sue Schnelle and Mary Alice McDermitt, both of Saint Marys.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Kenneth Gayer; Robert Gayer; brothers-in-law Don McDermitt and James Schnelle; sisters-in-law Mary Gayer and Roberta Gayer.
Verl was a 1952 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He served in the US Army, and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Saint Marys after 31 years of service. Verl and Shirley lived in Gainesville, Florida for 30 years, and moved back to Saint Marys in 2017. He was an avid golfer, a great cook, and he loved traveling. He was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys.
Funeral rites will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend Rhonda Hanier, officiant.
Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
All visitors to the funeral home are required to wear a mask, in accordance with the mandates of the Ohio Department of Health.
