Robert Christian
Robert D. "Bob" Christian, age 90, of Mendon, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2020, at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
He was born on July 11, 1930, in Portland, Indiana, the son of the late Floyd E. & Elsie E. (Thees) Christian. On May 15, 1949, he married Belva Jean (Harner) Christian, and she preceded him in death
February 21, 2006.
Surviving are 3 children: Beverly Piper (Mike Hays) of Union City, Tennessee, Barbara (Bill) Hamilton of Mendon, and Randy (Tricia) Christian of Celina.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Anessa (Rob) Abromavich, Tiffany (Channon) Fishbaugh, Travis (Misty) Piper, and Micah Christian; 5 step grandchildren: Corey Kremer, Steve (Rachel) Kremer, Rex (Terri) Piper, Rodney Piper and Randy Piper; 6 great grandchildren: Haylee (Corbin) Hellwarth, Hayden (Sydney) Abromavich, Emma Gause, Ethan Tuttle, Dergan Piper, and Teigan Piper; 7 step great grandchildren: Lyric (Kyle) Boeckman, Monique Thomas, Cole Link, Isabelle Kremer, Kasyn Fishbaugh, Kaleb Fishbaugh and Keaton Fishbaugh; a great-great grandchild on the way; a step great-great grandchild: Jace Boeckman; and 2 sisters-in-law: Dorothy Christian and Esther Snyder.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Tyler Christian; a step grandson, Rob Piper; a step great grandson: Tre Bilger; 5 sibling-in-laws: Mildred (Ed) Swander, Lucille (Ed) McGee, Mabel (George)
Stover, Ruby (Charles) Price, and Dean Snyder; a son-in-law: Delbert Piper.
A 1948 graduate of Mendon-Union High School, Bob and his wife, Belva were life-long farmers. Bob and his father, Floyd, owned and operated Christian Trucking, hauling hay, straw, and fertilizer.
Bob loved working outdoors, cutting wood and gardening. Other outdoor activities he enjoyed were hunting for arrowheads in the fields, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and riding his ATV and golf cart.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and made many hunting trips. Bob also really enjoyed baking pies and sharing them with others.
Bob served as a Union Township Trustee for many years. He was also active with the Mendon-Union Recreation Association (MURA) and had served as President of a local Square Dance Group. Bob was
a member of The Lord's Abounding Grace Church in Celina.
Funeral Services will be held at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 11th , with his son, Pastor Randy Christian, officiating. Burial will follow at
Mendon Cemetery.
Calling Hours are 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10th, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
Those attending are required to wear masks, practice social distancing as much as possible, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
