Gary 'Doc' Farley
Gary L. "Doc" Farley, age 75, of New Bremen, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at 1:00 A.M. at the Heritage Center in Minster, where he had been residing for the past few years.
He was born on July 18, 1945 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Lester P. "Whitey" Farley and Wonsie M. (Abbott) Gross. On February 28, 1965 he married Karen Moeller who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are his children Dawn Hess of Chickasaw, Greg (Gina) Farley of Tega Cay, SC, and Jill (Mike Speca) Farley of St. Charles, MO; his nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings M. Douglas Farley and Janet Wietholter.
Gary was a graduate of Anna High School, and held several high school basketball records there for many years. In recent years he had become a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, but had formerly been a member of St. Peter's Church, where he was a Deacon and Treasurer of the church. He had worked in Assembly at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen, retiring in 2008. Gary and Karen enjoyed playing Aggravation and Euchre with family and friends, and taking their many trips to Gatlinburg, TN. He had always had an interest in woodworking and refinishing furniture, but after retirement he began crafting numerous bird houses and bird feeders. He enjoyed doing yard work and collecting and building his Lionel train set. He had been a baseball coach, and also a member of the Crown 25 Year Club, New Bremen Historic Association, and the Friends of the New Bremen Library. Gary will always be remembered for his love of music and for his ability to crack a joke.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen with Bryan Trego officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling hours will be held prior to the services at the funeral home from Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday. Mask wearing and social distancing is encouraged at all services.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gary can be made to the New Bremen Historic Association (120 N. Main Street, New Bremen, Ohio 45869).
