Anna Mae Saum
Anna Mae Saum, 89, of St. Marys, OH died 2:25 p.m. Tuesday June 28, 2022 at Wyndmoor at Castleton in Indianapolis, IN.
She was born September 8, 1932 in Rocky Hill, NJ to Walter E. and Anna T. (Mc Carthy) Volk. On July 5, 1958 in Princeton, NJ, she married William H. Saum, who died December 17, 1997.
Survivors include: son Bill (Michele) Saum; son Brad Saum; son Bob Saum; 5 grandchildren: Loni, Landon, Aly (Jonah) Weaver, Zach and Luke; 1 great-grandson Finley Weaver; nieces and nephews: Joe (Beth) Finley, Theresa Finley, Kevin (Karen) Carney, Bob (Ruth) Carney, Michael Volk; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; close friends Carol Hertel and Sue Francis.
Preceded in death by: parents Walter and Anna Volk; husband William Saum; sister Carolyn (Jeff) Carney; brother James (Helen) Volk; sister Elaine (James) Finley.
Anna Mae was a graduate of Matawan, NJ High School (Class of 1950) and earned a bachelor's degree from Immaculata University in Philadelphia, PA in 1954. A lifelong educator, she taught high school at Red Bank Catholic in Red Bank, NJ; Auglaize School in New Bremen, OH; served as librarian, teacher and principal of Holy Rosary Catholic School in St. Marys. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
She contributed much to the community via her involvement with 4-H, Agape Ministries, Auglaize Co. Historical Society, Friends of the Library, America, Holy Rosary's annual garage sale and the St. Marys Deanery Advisory Council. Anna Mae was a recipient of the St. Marys "Builder of Bridges" award.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 16, 2022 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 511 E. Spring Street in St. Marys, with the Rev. Robert Muhlenkamp, celebrant. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either Holy Rosary Catholic School, Agape Ministries or Auglaize Co. 4-H programs.
