Tax levy on Marion Local ballot

By Tom Millhouse
MARIA STEIN - When they head to the polls on Nov. 8, voters in the Marion Local School District will be asked to approve the renewal of a 9-mill, 5-year emergency levy.
The current emergency levy is for 10 mills, but school treasurer Amy Reineke said the levy has been reduced to 9 mills because of an increase in the district valuation. The cost of the levy to the owner of a $100,000 home would be $315 per year.
The levy will generate $1,200,662 per year. The funds are used for operating expenses.
Reineke said the levy has been collected since 2013.
School officials have noted that the emergency levy is not associated with the current facilities study being conducted to assess the need for additional space to accommodate growing enrollment.
