Dolores Vollmer
Dolores A. (Meyer) Vollmer age 91 died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Elmwood Assisted Living, New Bremen.
She was born on October 6, 1931 in Minster, Ohio to the late Frank & Mary (Schmitmeyer) Meyer. On August 23, 1990, she married John R. Vollmer, and he preceded her in death on August 11, 2012.
She is survived by sisters: Rita Wuebker, Minster, and Jeanne Kemper, Minster, sister-in-law Flo Meyer, Botkins, stepsons: John & Connie Vollmer, Tim Vollmer, Milton & Sue Vollmer, stepdaughter: Cindy Rathbum and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step son-in-law Lyle Rathbum, siblings and in-laws: Vera & Lawrence, Schmiesing, Marie & Ralph Huelsman, Ester & Ralph Frey, Roman & Mary Ann Meyer, Robert Meyer, Urban & Eileen Meyer, Stanley Wuebker, and Larry Kemper.
Dolores lived a full and active life. At an early age she joined the Community of Glenmary Home Mission Sisters. She completed her high school at Ursaline Academy, Cincinnati, graduating in 1949. She did missionary work in Ohio and Appalachia areas of Tennessee. After taking her vows, she continued her education in Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Brussels, Belgium. She was selected and served on the Council for Glenmary Sisters.
After leaving the convent in 1967 she was employed by the (HEW) Health, Education and Welfare Department in Washington D.C. Years later she transferred to Denver, CO to organize and promote programs on Early Childhood Development.
Always looking for a challenge and by now having earned advanced degrees in business & public administration, she went to Lusk, WY and began employment for the Wyoming Department of Corrections as a business manager and also the Spiritual Advisor at the Women's Center in Lusk. She served received many awards and commendations for outstanding performances, service and was nominated and accepted in the International Community Association. Dolores was active in the Lusk Community especially at St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Arts Council. She was a religious woman with much faith and a caring heart. She had a broad knowledge base and diverse skills and a keen sense of humor. She loved and played classical music on her piano, was an accomplished artist, painting many pictures for family and friends. Above all she loved and enjoyed meeting with her coffee friends every morning. It was in Lusk that she met and married Robert Vollmer. Together they enjoyed working in their raised flower and vegetable garden. She was a devoted wife and caregiver until his death in 2012
Being in failing health herself, she returned to Minster to be with her family. The family is grateful to the caregivers and staff at Elmwood Assisted Living , New Bremen, and Grand Lake Hospice who lovingly cared for Dolores during her years at Elmwood.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 14, 2022 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 9 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. on Monday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
