Michael Koester
On December 3, 2022, Michael 'Mike' Koester passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mike endured a four-year battle with cancer, passing at 55 years of age.
Mike was born on September 23, 1967 in Coldwater, Ohio to Charles and Aneta (Werling) Koester. After attending Coldwater High School as a standout student-athlete, Mike attended the University of Toledo on a baseball scholarship and earned a degree in business.
During college, Mike met his best friend and love of his life, Christy
(Sweebe) Koester. Following college, Mike began work at Treaty Supply in Perrysburg before returning home to join his dad and brothers as an owner of Koester Electric, Inc.
On May 14, 1994, Mike married Christy at St. Clement Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio. They raised three beautiful children, son Kohl, and twin daughters Aubrey and Ashlyn.
Mike, also known by friends and sports enthusiasts as 'Roller' and by his Toledo friendsas 'Jughead', was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, and team player. He had an intense love for his family, a passion for family trips, enjoyed
playing sports with friends - especially baseball, and later softball with the Pla-Mor Lanes' team.
Mike also loved spending time with friends, Alabama football and making people smile. He was known for his big personality, contagious kindness, enduring humor, big smile, resilience and strength, and compassionate spirit.
Mike was always goal oriented. He continued to set and achieve goals with a couple of basketball records still standing at Coldwater High School. More recently, he was able to escort his beautiful daughters during their 2022 promenade, watch as they graduated from Coldwater High School in May 2022, and was present at Kohl's marriage to his best friend, Bailee, in October 2022.
Mike is survived by Christy, his devoted and loving wife of 28 years, as well as children, Kohl and Bailee (Rinderle) Koester of St. Marys, daughters Aubrey and Ashlyn Koester of Coldwater, and mother Aneta Koester of Coldwater. Siblings and in-laws Jeff and Linda Koester of St. Henry, Tom and Jaci Koester of St. Henry, and Rebecca Kelly of Celina. Mother-in-laws Marsha Smith and Sandy Sweebe, and father-in-law ButchSweebe, all of Toledo. In-laws Tracy and Mike Henderly of Whitehouse, Dustin and Misty Smith of New York, Kelly and Matt Cunningham of Whitehouse, Paula and Marcus Ma of Michigan, and Troy and Sarah Sweebe of Columbus. Mike was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including godson Jeremy Koester and goddaughter Jasmine Kelly.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Charles Koester, his brother, Steve Koester, and his great-nephews, Jaxson Koester and Jaden Muhlenkamp.
Mike was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Coldwater.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 9, at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 120 E. Main Street, Coldwater, Ohio, 45828.
Family and Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, 715 E. Main Street in Coldwater, on Thursday, December 8 between 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday, December 9 between 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Association of Mercer County, 218 S Main St, Celina, OH 45822.
