Ann Buchanan
Ann Louise (Gagel) Buchanan, age 83, died of natural causes at home with family by her side on December 27, 2022 in Newburgh, Indiana.
Ann was born on November 3rd, 1939 to Marguerite (Hickey) and Aloys Gagel and grew up happily in Maria Stein, Ohio. In high school, she was named both home coming queen and valedictorian of her class. Ann married Charles (Charlie) Buchanan on February 16, 1963 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, Ohio.
She and Charlie raised 5 children in Marion, Ohio and later in Muncie, Indiana. She is survived by their children, Christopher & Angela Buchanan, Dallas, TX, Ellen Buchanan, Newburgh, IN, Tobias & Julianne Buchanan, Muncie, IN, Emily & Monte McKibben, Yorktown, IN and Katherine Hawkins, Newburgh, IN, and 9 grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by one sister, Catherine Jane (Gagel) & Bill Brockman, Bethesda, MD, and 4 brothers, Thomas & Sharon, Maria Stein, OH, Michael & Karen, Dublin, OH, Robert Gagel & Margo Cox, Philadelphia, PA and Paul & Mary, Maria Stein, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Charlie.
Ann always aspired to be a nurse and attended St. E's College in Dayton, OH to earn her RN. She found her calling caring for geriatric patients and loved the stories they had to share. She was an avid gardener known for her beautiful flower gardens, a wonderful baker and despite becoming legally blind in her forties, a voracious reader to her final days. Ann was a generous listener and constant care giver to all who knew her. The family would like to thank the Indiana State Talking Book and Braille Library, who delivered books on tape to Ann's door for over 40 years and the wonderful caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice and Around the Clock Care in Evansville, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30am on January, 6th, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein, Ohio.
Calling will be at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, Ohio 9:00am - 10:00am, ahead of the funeral mass.
