Janet Sorensen
Janet Ann Sorensen, 83, of Lima, Ohio passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 21, 2023, in DeLand, Florida.
She was born on December 19, 1939, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Wayne and Jane Adams, a hardworking farmer and devoted homemaker. Janet married William Dean Sorensen, the love of her life, on September 10, 1961.
Janet was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, known for her vivacious spirit and lifelong faith in God. Janet graduated from Celina High School in Celina, Ohio in 1957. She was a choir member, and active in the Washington Winners 4H club, showing Holsteins at the Mercer County Fair every year. Janet graduated from Elkhart University in 1959, with a certificate in Laboratory Technology at St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, Ohio and worked later as a dental assistant for Orthodontic Associates in Lima until retirement.
Janet and William had three children: Tracy A. Sorensen of DeLand, Fla.; Dean C. (Lori) Sorensen of Columbus, Ohio, and Daniel W. (Elena) Sorensen of Aurora, Colo.; two grandchildren, Madeleine and Miles Sorensen; three sisters: Kathryn Diehl, Suzanne (Paul) Murray, Elisabeth (David) Courtney; a brother Tony (Terry) Adams; sister-in-law Nancy (David) Ventker; and five nieces, three nephews, and eight great-nieces/nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband William; an infant son; brothers-in-law Douglas Diehl and Neil Sorensen; a sister-in-law Genevieve Elliot; and a niece and nephew.
Janet was active in many community organizations, including St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and choir, 4H Advisor, Master Gardeners, ArtSpace Photography Club, the Wassenburg Photography Club, and the West Central Ohio Rock Club. Janet enjoyed gardening, singing, gourding, sewing, and scrapbooking. She was an avid reader and worked hard at everything she put her hand to. She proudly hosted Thanksgiving dinners for her children, siblings, nieces and nephews and their families and it was always a large affair. She loved family camping trips with her young children, and later, enjoyed biannual "sisters' reunions." She loved games, especially Scrabble and solitaire, and was a ferocious contender. She loved the warmer weather, and spent her last few years in DeLand, Florida, near her daughter Tracy and sister Katie.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at St. Matthew Evangelical Church, 5050 St. Matthews Drive, Lima, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
