Larry Link
Larry J. Link, 79, of New Bremen, went to his eternal reward after a sudden illness on Monday June 10, 2024 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
He was born on May 27, 1945 to the late Ernest and Agnes (Eifert) Link in Celina, Ohio. On October 11, 1969, he married Peggy Ann Ellis, who proceeded him in death on April 6, 2019. They were married for almost 50 years.
Larry is survived by his children Wendy and Chris Link, both of New Bremen; his sisters, Norma Jean Backs, Marion, Ind.; and Janet Westgerdes, St. Henry; four sisters-in law: Sharon (Robert) Lauber, St. Henry; Barbra (Dave) Brockman, North Star; Sandra (Steve) Weitzel, Burkettsville; and Lynda (Tim) Griesdorn, Coldwater; 24 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Larry was also proceeded in death by his sister Joan (Link) Zdanowski, brother Thomas Link; nephew Steve Backs, niece Amy Westgerdes-Graves; brothers-in-law: Edward Zdanowski, Robert Backs and Ronald Westgerdes; and father and mother-in-law Roger and Dorothy (Fox) Ellis.
Larry grew up on the family farm outside of St. Henry and was a 1963 graduate of St. Henry High School. He began working for Crown Equipment Corporation in 1965. Larry was drafted into the army in 1966, serving two years. He was sent overseas to Korea. After returning home he went back to work at Crown for 41 years, retiring in 2009.
He was a member of the New Bremen Gun Club and the NRA. He was a proud veteran, Republican and American. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and target shooting. His greatest joy was working on little projects or as he called it "piddling". He was a great handyman. He loved spending time with his family and imparted lots of wisdom and good advice, along with funny stories about his youthful adventures. He was a real character who never knew a stranger and loved to chew the fat with anyone. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, husband and the best Dad in the world. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Special thanks to everyone who did their best to care for Larry during his sudden illness: the New Bremen police and EMS squad, the doctors and nurses at JTDMH, Care Flight and Miami Valley Hospital and Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp, who administered his last rites and prayed with him. We are very grateful to them all.
