Doris Birt
Doris A. Birt age 89, of Saint Henry died Monday, August 26, 2024, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater. Doris was born August 22, 1935, in Celina, Ohio to the late Dietrick and Alma (Schulte) Bertke. On October 1, 1955, Doris married her husband, Robert Birt. Robert and Doris were happily married until his passing on November 15, 2000.
Surviving family members include four children: Angela & Jerry Dircksen of Minster, Tess & Tom Kaup of Ft. Recovery, Bob & Lisa Birt of Coldwater, and Becky Birt of St. Henry. Doris is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Kris & Travis Kanorr, Julie & Michael Berry, Erin Dircksen & Brandon Thobe, Alex Dircksen, Ian Dircksen, Hannah Kaup, Spencer Kaup, Michael & Julia Birt, Steve & Jen Birt and Katie & Jesse Miller, 17 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a sister-in-law, Myra Weddle.
In addition to her husband and parents, Doris is preceded in death by three infant sons, Matthew, Gary, and Joseph, as well as siblings and in-laws: Paul & Lucille Bertke, Pat & Tom Hamberg, Jim & Rita Birt, and Ronald "Pete" Weddle.
Doris was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Celina "Go Spartans!" She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, where she had been a communion distributor bringing communion to those in the hospital and homebound. She was a member of the St. Henry Altar Rosary Sodality, the Daughters of Isabella, and the St. Henry American Legion Auxiliary. Doris retired from the former Hartwig Poultry in Ft. Recovery, and later helped many elderly individuals stay in their homes by doing in-home care. She was an avid sports fan, especially for the St. Henry Redskins. Doris loved playing cards, and when she was able, enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events and activities.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 30, at St. Henry Catholic Church.
Following the funeral mass, burial will take place in St. Henry Cemetery.
Family and Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, August 29, or 9-10 AM on Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. Condolences for the family may be expressed in person, or online at hogenkampfh.com
