ST. HENRY - St. Henry hoped to be sharing the Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball lead by the end of Tuesday.

The Redskins settled for another quality win instead.

Needing a victory to keep hope alive for a piece of the MAC title, St. Henry took care of business with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of Versailles.

The performance by St. Henry was nothing but good, but the result in Coldwater was bad for St. Henry as the Cavaliers swept New Bremen to prevent a three-way tie atop the MAC standings. Coldwater can clinch an outright title against Minster Thursday at home.

Regardless, this was everything St. Henry coach Tricia Rosenbeck wanted to see out of her team on Senior Night.

"We just came in hungry to beat a good team," she said. "Versailles is a really good team. They just never stop. They just keep grinding. You get a five-point lead, then all of a sudden it's back to one or two. That's just how it was all night. … But our girls are just hungry to win. Our girls are hungry for the tournament. Our girls are focused on getting better."

In the opening set, St. Henry (17-4, 7-1 MAC) led 8-7 before going on a 7-4 run. The margin was never closer than three points after. Ellie Fullenkamp finished off the 25-18 win with a clean spike.

The second set was tied a handful of times. The Tigers (10-10, 4-4 MAC) fell behind 20-16 but rallied to tie the score at 23-all thanks, in part, to an ace by Taylor Wagner and a kill by Kiley May. The final two points went to St. Henry via a violation and hitting error.

It was a similar story in set three. St. Henry got ahead by five points. Versailles rallied back to even the score at 12-apiece, but this time St. Henry rolled down the stretch to a 25-19 clincher.

Morgan Baumer had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs for St. Henry. Morgan Robinette had a team-high 12 digs to go along with four aces. Lauren Thieman tallied 28 assists.

"When it got close, it was good to see people step up," Rosenbeck said. "That's passing the ball, putting a ball down and just finding ways to get points. There were things that we usually do that weren't working. We had to find ways to earn points in tough situations."
