Lowell Ferner
Lowell Ferner, 77, 1870 North 700 East, Portland, Ind., died at 8 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008, at his residence.
He was born April 22, 1931, in Jay County, to Charley and Sarah McAfee Ferner. On Nov. 10, 1951, he married to Wanda Brookhart, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Mark (Karen), Portland, Ind., and Dean, New Martinsville, W.Va.; four daughters, Cheryl (Chris) Cox, Laura, Linda (Rick) Ross, Paulding, Donna (Brian) Bonner, Marion, Ind., and Sue (Paul) Huff, Brookston, Ind.; and 15 grandchildren.
He was a farmer and worked for 16 years at the former Agco New Idea and retired after 30 years from Pax Steel, both in Coldwater. He was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Church of the Nazarene, Fort Recovery. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1949. He served as president of the Parent-Teacher Association of Jay County, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Services are 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church, the Revs. Dennis Kelley and Verl Ballmer officiating. Burial is at Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service Wednesday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland.
