Jack Powell
Former St. Marys resident Jack David Powell, 83, Astor, Fla., died at 4:13 a.m. June 15, 2010, at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born May 17, 1927, in Montgomery County, to Olas and Rose Dood Powell. On June 30, 1945, he married Carol Presar, who survives.
Also surviving are 10 children, Nancy (Rick) LaLonde, Port St. Lucie, Fla., George (Sharon) Powell, San Antonio, Fla., Roseann (Patrick) Hale-Murphy, Lima, Jacquelyn Huecker, Minster, Carolyn (Roger) Zizelman, Celina, Susan (Mick) Eymer, St. Marys, Marilyn (Marion) Hicks, St. Marys, Betty (Keith) Westerheide, Minster, Daniel (Pamela) Powell, Rome City, Ind., and James (Michelle) Powell, Wapakoneta; one sister, Thelma Smith, Celina; 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Deceased are two brothers, Olas and Glen Powell; an infant sister; and two sons-in-law, Cheldon Fetters and Ed Huecker.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force where he served in World War II. He retired from the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he was a supervisor in the shipping department. He also was a life member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, the American Legion Post 323 and Eagles Lodge 767, all of St. Marys.
Funeral rites will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, the Rev. Tom Schwind officiating. Burial with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289 and American Legion Post 323 will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Moulton.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the Astor Baptist Church Building Fund.
