FORT RECOVERY - Village council members likely have stopped a Dollar General store from coming to the village.
Council members Monday night unanimously rejected a zoning change that would have allowed the store to be built in the industrial park off state Route 49. The vote was taken after council asked the nearly 20 local residents at the meeting if they were in support of the business coming to town; no one raised a hand. [More]

Two Mercer County residents are awaiting extradition to Indiana to face murder charges in the beating death of an 81-year-old Marion man.
Lacy Bradley, 21, and James Griffith, 33, both of 12001 state Route 81, Rockford, were apprehended Aug. 1 at a Frankfort, Ky., gas station. They were served with murder warrants three days later. No date has been set for extradition hearings. [More]

CELINA - Nearly 75 people went to the Celina Rotary Dog Park on Monday night to celebrate the memory of Zak, the three-year-old Mercer County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit who died last week after having been left in the backseat of his handler's hot cruiser.
The possibility of criminal charges against Mercer County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Fortkamp, who had left the department's K-9 in a car where he died from heart failure due to heat on Wednesday, is in the hands of Celina Law Director George Moore.
