The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality.
Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.
It is recommended, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in the nose, throat, and eyes.

Magdalene Niemer
Magdalene Spieler Niemer (Madge), age 104, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, January 4th at St. Leonard Senior Community in Centerville, Ohio, where she had lived for the last six years.
Madge was born on April 16, 1912 in Celina, Ohio, the 3rd of the ten children of August J. and Bertha Pulskamp Spieler. In 1941 she married William T. Niemer of Cincinnati who later became a Professor of Anatomy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where the couple lived for 25 years.
After her husband's death, Madge lived in Cincinnati for 30 years. Madge graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Celina in 1929. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1934 and a Master's Degree in English from Creighton University in 1964.
Madge is survived by eight nieces and five nephews, as well as many great- and grand-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband who died in 1971, she was preceded in death by her seven sisters and two brothers.
Since her birth on the day after the Titanic sank, Madge's 104 years of life were full and happy. She was the first Girl Scout leader in Celina, a social worker during the Great Depression, and an active faculty wife at Creighton. She enjoyed travel, genealogy, golf, dance, bridge, and exercise - practicing yoga well into her 90s. Madge brought joy and love to many lives. Her warmth, intelligence, and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all who loved her. The family would like to thank the caregivers at St. Leonard and Hospice of Dayton for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held at St. Leonard Faith Community Church, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville on Monday January 9th, starting with visitation at 10:30, followed by a memorial service at 11:00. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Celina, OH on Mon. at 1:30 PM.
