Norma J. Poppe
Norma J. Poppe, 86, of Spencerville, Ohio, passed away at 6:30 A.M. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.
She was born December 10, 1930, in St. Marys, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Lulu (Seewer) Whetstone. She married Robert J. Poppe on April 3, 1955; he preceded her in death on August 2, 2010.
She is survived by her five children: David Poppe of Minster; Linda (Harry) Bienert of Spencerville; Ned Poppe of Spencerville; Dixie (Mike) Durkee of Saint Marys; Todd (Lori) Poppe of Saint Marys; four grandchildren: Jason (Krystal), Andrew (Meg) and Nick Durkee; and Dara (Garrett) Smith; a great grandson, Liam Durkee; a brother, Kenneth (Evelyn) Whetstone, Celina, Ohio; and two sisters, Mary Lou (Junior) Boroff, St. Marys, Ohio, and Ruth Ann Osborn, Bryan, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Freeman Whetstone, Glen Whetstone, and Paul Whetstone; two sisters Beatrice Miller, and Gail Becker; and a granddaughter, Jaralyn Bienert.
Norma was a 1950 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She retired from Huffy Bicycles, in Celina after 22 years of service. She was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys, and also attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Spencerville. Norma was always very active in her church and enjoyed volunteering at Auglaize County Special Olympics, Auglaize Industries, and the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Guild. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she will be deeply missed by all.
Visitation hours will be from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in Cisco Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday morning in the Cisco Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Rev. Jan Johnson, officiating; the family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
